Dinner at Grandpa & Grandma Chesnut's

One of my favorite traditions is eating over at Grandpa & Grandma Chesnut's. Growing up we ate dinner at their house every single Sunday. Once I got married, we started eating over there every other Sunday and recently it has turned into about once a month. Nonetheless, it is still one of my favorite family times that we spend together. Grandma always prepares one of her speciality meals. She's famous for her Enchiladas, Chicken Noodle Soup served over mashed potatoes (which is what we enjoyed last night), Breakfast Biscuits & Gravy (which we eat on Fast Sunday's), Meatloaf, Ribs, and all of her amazing desserts. Her turnovers are my favorite! Oh yeah, plus her homeade rolls. She is an amazing cook! Besides the wonderful food, the most notable memory about eating at Chesnut's is making sure that you are on time. All of us at one point in our lives has been late to dinner at Grandma's and faced her wrath, it's not good! So, you make sure that you leave with plenty of time so that you can arrive promptly at the scheduled time unless you want to make Grandma mad (and trust me, you don't, she'll take her shoe off or get a switch.) After dinner, we help clear the table, but never do the dishes for her because she is a little bit OCD (I wonder where I got it). She will rearrange the dishwasher if you don't put things in the right place so most of us have given up on helping and I think she prefers it that way. After dinner, in the summer, we head out to the back patio and enjoy talking to each other and watching the kids run around. After awhile, we pack up and head home, usually taking some goodies home that Grandma has packed up for us. Aaaah...time at the Grandparent's house is wonderful!
